Written in 2002 under my maiden name (Caulton), this piece was inspired by Jean Hasse's 'Leaning', which is also written on a graphic score. It begins with spoken words which are repeated at certain points throughout the piece; each section lasts about 10 seconds, and the graphic notation suggests the texture of each sound. Placement on the score suggests the pitch, i.e. the bottom of the score suggests low range, the top of the score suggests top range. There are also standard dynamic markings.
The piece can be played by any ensemble of instruments or voices. It was performed at a voice workshop arranged by CoMA South in about 2003/4. |
