Jaquie Daniels

Jaquie was born in Twickenham near London and started having piano lessons at the tender age of 5.  She started to learn the 'cello at the age of 9 and later played with the Southampton Youth Orchestra.  She went to college in Birmingham, UK, studying Business Studies and playing with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra in her spare time.  She has  had a number of jobs, including Accounts Assistant for a classical musicians' agency in London; she now works for an independent bookshop in Southampton.  She currently plays with the Southampton Concert Orchestra.

She started writing songs at the age of 12, taking this more seriously from the age of 28.  'Perfect Days' is an example of her work in this genre.  She became interested in composition and joined CoMA (Contemporary Music for All) in 2001 to get an idea of how to write in this genre.

Three ensemble pieces are featured on this website -  'Cat Suite' which attempts to describe musically a day in the life of a cat,  'On the River Loire', based on a painting of the same name by Charles-Francois Daubigny, and 'Miracles', written as a graphic score. 'Cat Suite' has been performed as part of the London Chamber Group's 'Piece of the Year' Competition (2003), and by the Northwood String Orchestra, which is based in Southampton. 'On the River Loire' was written and performed as part of a project run by CoMA South in conjunction with Southampton Art Gallery in December 2004.  'Miracles' was performed at a voice workshop in about 2003/4.
